Objective:
This guide contains all the necessary steps to debrand your Sony Ericcson W760a.
 

Benefits:
By debranding your phone you enable the free to use of GPS service. A bunch of new tools and applications. Remove the pay-to-use applications.

Requirements:

• A2Uploader
• Sony Ericsson Update Service (SEUS)
• Custom XML Files (Debrand & Video Streaming)
• USB Cable DCU-60 
• Patience

Steps:
 

1. Download A2Uploader (extract from zip), Custom XML files (extract from zip) and Sony Ericsson Update Service
2. Execute A2Uploader.exe
3. Turn off the phone and remove the battery for a few seconds and connect it again
4. Press the FileSystem Tool button on the right side of the A2Uploader window
5. By pressing and holding down number 5 key or 'C' (depends on your area) on your phone connect the USB cable to the phone and the computer
6. Wait for a response from the A2Uploader
7. Browse to tpa/preset/custom
8. Upload the xml file called customize_upgrade.xml to the directory on step 7
9. Press the Shutdown FS Manager on the A2Uploader application
10. Disconnect the USB Cable from the phone
11. Turn on the phone and let it boot to the main screen
12. Turn off the phone again
13. Open the Sony Ericsson Update Service SEUS
14. Choose your phone type, look for the W760.
15. SEUS will indicate you to press and hold down number 5 key or 'C' on your phone before connecting the USB cable to the phone to the computer.
16. Wait until the update completes (30 minutes approx)
17. Disconnect the USB cable and turn on the phone
18. Your phone is debranded !!!

Now we have to configure MediaNet and Picture Messaging.

Configuring MEdiaNet
 

1. Navigate: "Menu" > "Settings" > "Connectivity" > "Data Communication" > "Preferred service" - Select PS and CS
2. Navigate: "Menu" > "Settings" > "Connectivity" > "Internet Settings" > "Connect using:"
3. Press "options" and "create new" 
4. Enter the following settings (just take everything as case sensitive): 

   Account type: PS data 
   Name: MEdia Net 
   APN: wap.cingular 
   Username: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM 
   Password: CINGULAR1 
   Login request: Off 
   IP address: ... 
   DNS address: ... 
   Authentication: None, PAP, CHAP 
   Data compression: Off 
   Header compr.: Off 
   Proxy settings: (Enter and read on) 
   Proxy: On 
   Same for all servers: Off 
   Proxy servers: Multiple (Enter and read on) 
   HTTP: 
   Username: (blank) 
   Password: (blank) 
   Proxy address: 66.209.11.32 
   Port: 80

5. Back out and save all the settings and set your internet settings as MEdiaNet

Configure Picture Messaging
 

1. Navigate: "Menu" > "Messaging" > "Settings" > "Picture message"
2. Validity Period: Network Maximum 
   Read Report: Off 
   Delivery report: Off 
   Signature: No signature 
   Creation mode: Alert 
   Picture Scaling: standard 
   Auto Download: ALWAYS 
   Accept Messages: (all checked)
3. Create or check the MMS profile name:
   Profile name: MEdia Net 
   Message Server: http://mmsc.cingular.com 
   CONNECT USING: MEdia Net

    

Enable Video Streaming (youtube) on your Debranded W760:
 

1. Execute A2Uploader.exe
2. Turn off the phone and remove the battery for a few seconds and connect it again
3. By pressing and holding down number 5 key or 'C' on your phone connect the USB cable to the phone and the computer
4. Wait for a response from the A2Uploader
5. Press the FileSystem Tool button on the right side of the A2Uploader window
6. Browse to tpa/preset/custom
7. Upload the customixed youtube xml file called customize_upgrade.xml to the directory on step6
8. Press the Shutdown FS Manager on the A2Uploader application
9. Disconnect the USB Cable from the phone
10. Turn on the phone and let it boot to the main screen

Add the MediaNet Portal:
 

1. open the default browser
2. Bookmark or set http://home as the homepage
3. You're Done.

Turning off 3G to extend battery life:
Now after debranding your phone you can turn off 3G when you don't need it. You will notice that it will have longer battery life.

1.  Navigate: "Menu" > "Settings" > "Connectivity" > "Mobile networks" > "GSM/3G networks"
2. Choose "GSM only"
3. To go back to 3G just navitage to same section and select  "GSM and 3G"
